The GIANTS can now confirm that Silver Ferns centurion and former captain, Casey Kopua, will remain with the club as a replacement player for the remainder of the 2025 Suncorp Super Netball season.
Kopua initially joined the side as a temporary replacement player for their round eight match against the Melbourne Vixens and has since signed a new contract that will see her stay in orange and charcoal for the remainder of the home-and-away season.
One of the most accomplished and respected defenders in international netball, Kopua is a true icon of the game.
With a stellar 17-season national league career at the Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic, she was a cornerstone of one of New Zealand’s most successful franchises, where she previously played alongside current GIANTS teammates Jo Harten and Jamie-Lee Price, as well as head coach Julie Fitzgerald.
A world-class circle defender known for her impeccable timing, relentless intensity, and unmatched leadership, Kopua is known to have consistently delivered in high-pressure moments throughout her career.
She captained both club and country with poise and authority, earning the admiration of teammates, opponents, and fans alike.
Now coming out of retirement to strengthen a depleted and inexperienced GIANTS defensive end, Kopua brings not only strategic depth but also the calm presence of a seasoned leader to the court.
As a former world champion and long-time leader, she brings a wealth of knowledge, professionalism, and spirit to the GIANTS. Her guidance will be instrumental in nurturing the next generation of talent and reinforcing the team’s competitive edge throughout the remainder of the season.
Kopua signs on as the replacement player for Jodi-Ann Ward, while training partner Aimee Landrigan remains in the squad for another week in place of Tilly McDonell (calf injury).
The GIANTS would like to acknowledge the support of Step One who will be supporting Kopua and her family to make this happen.
