The GIANTS have elevated emerging defensive talent Eva Carneiro to the role of 11th player for the remaineder of the 2026 Suncorp Super Netball season, following Skye Thompson's recent promotion to Permanent Replacement Player.
Marking another milestone in her rapid rise through the ranks, Carneiro made her SSN debut in round 11 against the Adelaide Thunderbirds.
The 16‑year‑old joined the club as the fourth and final training partner ahead of the 2026 campaign and has quickly impressed with her composure, instinctive defensive craft, and maturity well beyond her years.
Carneiro arrived at the GIANTS on the back of an impressive season at the NSW 17U level and has continued her rise by captaining the state team in 2026.
Widely regarded as one of the state’s most exciting young defenders, the Sutherland Shire talent is known for her natural defensive instincts, sharp court awareness, and ability to read play with poise.
A talented cross‑code athlete, Carneiro juggles elite netball and basketball alongside her academic commitments.
GIANTS Head Coach Nerida Stewart said the elevation reflects the defender’s rapid development and readiness for the next step.
“Eva has shown remarkable growth in a very short time, and her elevation is a reward for the intent and maturity she brings to every session,” Stewart said.
“She carries herself with a calm confidence that lifts the people around her. Eva reads the game beautifully, works seamlessly in defensive partnerships, and we couldn’t be more excited to see her continue to flourish in our environment.”
