One of five GIANTS with more than 50 caps to their name, inaugural GIANT Sam Poolman is set for another big season of Suncorp Super Netball.
The 190cm defender has been working hard during the extended pre-season; both at training, but also away from the court with her involvement in community netball.
Head Coach Julie Fitzgerald said Poolman constantly works hard to try and improve her game.
Poolman recorded the highest number of deflections for any GIANT in 2019 and also led the way in rebounds.
“Sam is dogged defender and has been working on specifics within her game to continue her impact and influence as a defender this season,” said Fitzgerald.
“She is a strong rebounder and has real presence under the ring.”
The defensive combination of Poolman and Manu’a rarely changed throughout 2019.
However, the introduction of the new rolling substitutions rule will most likely see the more experienced duo combine with the GIANTS’ young defensive talent.
Popular amongst her teammates and fans alike, Poolman was recognised for tireless work both on and off the court with the 2019 GIANTS Netball Players’ Player Award.
“Sam is always the ultimate team member,” said Fitzgerald.
“She brings a real energy to the team and has the ability to lift those around her.”
The season is set to start on August 1, with the league still yet to announce a fixture.
