The GIANTS are excited to announce that promising local Skye Thompson has signed with the club as a training partner for the 2026 Suncorp Super Netball season.
A versatile athlete capable of playing both wing and goal attack, Thompson joins the GIANTS after playing a key role in New South Wales’ 19U win at Nationals earlier this year.
Also a former member of the Swifts Academy, Thompson is currently trialling for the 2026 NSW 19U side.
Hailing from the Sutherland Shire, Thompson’s versatility is aided by her speed and agility, a great court sense, and a strong aerobic capacity.
GIANTS Netball Head Coach Nerida Stewart said it was exciting to welcome Thompson to the GIANTS for 2026.
“We’re excited to add Skye to our program where we think she’ll really excel in our high-performance environment,” Stewart said.
“She’s a talented local product who has really shone for her state at national underage level and we look forward to helping her develop as a training partner in 2026.
“Being able to swing between WA and GA is rare in the elite space and she can even play centre at times.
“She also possesses a great combination of agility and speed which has already seen her evade some of our best defenders at training to really highlight her strengths.
“With her fantastic work ethic and the joy that she exudes, there’s no doubt Skye will most certainly complement our culture.”
Thompson shared her joy at joining the GIANTS for season 2026.
“I am super excited to be signed with the GIANTS as a training partner and very grateful for the opportunity,” she said.
“Being able to play and train against such world class athletes gives me the opportunity to push myself and take my game to the next level whilst also learning what it takes to play SSN.
“In 2026 I just want to keep building on what I have achieved in 2025. I think having confidence in myself even now stepping into a fresh new environment is crucial to being able to continue growing my game. I also want to keep developing the versatility I have in my game and pushing my S&C to the next level.”
The talented youngster said she was already loving her time as a GIANT after recently beginning pre-season with her new side.
“Pre-season has definitely been intense and a lot different to my prior pre-season experiences. Normally I would be training by myself at home, so to actually be in a team environment has been so rewarding, as I can push myself alongside my teammates.
“All the girls have been so welcoming which has made my transition to the GIANTS so easy. The group has come into pre-season ready to go and with real intensity so I’m excited to see what’s ahead.”
