With the GIANTS’ 2021 squad now finalised, the GIANTS farewell Teigan O’Shannassy after four years with the club.
O’Shannassy has been a part of the GIANTS since their inaugural season as a training partner in 2017 and 2018 and a contracted athlete in 2019 and 2020.
The 188cm defender made her Suncorp Super Netball debut in round five of season 2019 to become GIANT #18.
Unfortunately, O’Shannassy missed the 2020 season for the GIANTS after being diagnosed with acute glandular fever earlier this year.
GIANTS Head Coach Julie Fitzgerald said she felt for the 21-year-old.
“Poor Teigan has been dealt a string of bad luck with injuries and illness over the past three years,” she said.
“She definitely has potential and we would have loved to have been able to provide her with more opportunities.
“We wish Teigan all the best for her future endeavours and thank her for her contribution to the club.”
O’Shannassy said after four years with the GIANTS she believes a change would be beneficial.
“After not being re-signed as a contracted athlete for the 2021 season I had to re-evaluate why I was playing netball and what I wanted out of my netball career,” she said.
“For me, missing the 2020 season was extremely hard and all I want to get out of the 2021 season is to get out and play netball again.
“I have enjoyed my time with the GIANTS and made lifelong friends.
“However, I believe a change would be beneficial for me and enable me to learn new skills and continue to grow my game.
“My aim is to work my way back into a contracted 10 and prove that I have what it takes to be a Diamond one day.
“I’m only 21-years-old and I definitely have a lot more netball left in me – so hopefully you’ll see me out on the court soon.”
