The GIANTS will enter season 2023 with the same squad that got them to their fourth finals campaign in six years, with Matisse Letherbarrow, Amy Sligar and Lauren Moore all extending their contracts into next season.
The trio all joined the GIANTS’ contracted squad for the first time in 2022, with Letherbarrow and Sligar offered their first full-time contracts and Moore joining the GIANTS from the Swifts.
Matisse Letherbarrow is a young and emerging shooter, continuing to grow and strengthen her craft.
The 20-year-old is learning from one of the most formidable shooting circles in the league and Letherbarrow, Jo Harten and Sophie Dwyer have combined for the league’s most Suncorp Super Shots in 2022.
Letherbarrow showed the league what she was capable of when she entered the GIANTS’ round nine match against the Melbourne Vixens, sinking nine Super Shots in a half of netball.
Another young-gun pivotal to the future success of the club is mid-courter Amy Sligar.
The 19-year-old was awarded her first Super Netball contract in 2022, absorbing as much as she can from the talent around her and making the most of her opportunities.
Hailing from a defensive mid-court background, Sligar has been crafting her game to play all three midcourt positions – adding great depth to the GIANTS’ line up.
Another player bringing great versatility to the GIANTS’ squad is defender Lauren Moore.
The 24-year-old has fitted in seamlessly at the GIANTS in her first season and continues to form great combinations with fellow circle defenders April Brandley and Tilly McDonell.
Celebrating 50 National League games in the orange this year, Moore brings great excitement to the ongoing success of this club.
Coach Julie Fitzgerald said she was thrilled to have the trio re-commit.
“I think it’s really exciting to not only have our whole squad return but have this locked in before our 2022 season even comes to an end,” she said.
“We’ve been building something really great over the past couple of years and I think we have a great balance of players to deliver both immediate success as well as continue to build the foundations of this club and the sport in our state.”
April Brandley, Sophie Dwyer, Jo Harten, Maddie Hay, Matilda McDonell, Amy Parmenter and Jamie-Lee Price all signed the maximum two-year deals ahead of the 2022 season and are already committed for the 2023 season.
The GIANTS take on the Vixens in a Preliminary Final on Saturday at John Cain Arena at 7pm.
