Star defender Jodi-Ann Ward will miss the remainder of the Suncorp Super Netball season with scans confirming an ACL tear for the Jamaican international.
The season-ending injury was a result of a collision incident which occurred at the start of the fourth quarter.
Ward was involved in a prior unrelated incident earlier in the game, which had no impact on the unfortunate ACL injury.
The 30-year-old will undergo surgery this Friday to begin her rehabilitation.
GIANTS Head Coach Julie Fitzgerald said the entire club would be behind Ward every step of the way.
“She’s an incredibly important part of our GIANTS family. We’ll wrap our arms around her throughout her recovery and we know she’ll attack this next chapter with the same determination and passion we see from her on game day,” said Fitzgerald.
“We know it’s a big loss — there’s no denying that, but we have a resilient group, and this is an opportunity for others to step up.
“We’ll regroup, adjust where we need to, and keep pushing forward.”
The GIANTS will now look into replacements options and make an announcement in due course.
