Young GIANTS Netball defender Teigan O’Shannassy will miss at least the first part of the Suncorp Super Netball season due to illness.
O’Shannassy has been diagnosed with acute glandular fever after reporting feeling fatigued and unable to complete training following the COVID break.
The 21-year-old has spent most of this month recovering away from the court, with the disruptions to her training not allowing her to be in the physical condition to participate in matches at this stage.
Given the format of the intense season and shortened breaks between games, it is under medical advice that O’Shannassy will not safely be able to play at Super Netball level for the near future.
O’Shannassy has some health and performance markers she will need to reach to progress back to the elite level. With an unfortunate injury history since becoming a contracted player in 2019, her long-term health and welfare remains the number one priority of the club.
The GIANTS medical team will continue to guide her as she returns to play.
O’Shannassy will remain in Sydney when the team relocate to the competition wide Queensland hub and will work closely with the GIANTS Netball Academy and her Premier League team for a gradual reintroduction to netball.
GIANTS will advise of their updated squad in the coming days.
